We are Zeroses Read Awards (ZRA), a group of authors and readers that came together to celebrate the amazing fics our fandom has been creating for Zerobaseone. We believe that a lot of fics deserve more recognition and we saw this as the perfect opportunity to make them shine! We want you to share your favorite fics in the fandom based on certain categories. What fic do you think deserves ten thousand more hits? Nominate it now! After the nomination period ends and a list of recommendations has been compiled, we will go on a quest together to find la crème de la crème - the most outstanding fic - and give them the Daesang they deserve. However, consent and respect are our number one priorities. So before starting with the awarding phase, we will reach out to every author listed. If they do not respond, decline to participate, or do not want a specific fic to be entered, they will be immediately removed from our list of participants. If consent is withdrawn at any point, we will remove the participating fic immediately. We hope that this whole process will bring forward new, underrated fics that are beloved enough to be shared with the community. Nothing is more precious to an author than a loving comment, and what is more loving than getting awarded by your readers?

We are looking for people to submit their favorite ZEROBASEONE fics! Now is your chance to bring a lesser known fic into the spotlight!Submit a fic here.

We are currently looking for readers for these fics, so please sign up if you're interested!Sign up to be a reader here.

Our Values

FairnessWe will recruit Readers until January 18th. To make sure that no one gets an unfair result, every fic is read by at least three Readers, and we will monitor any deviating score (This doesn’t mean the readers shouldn’t be honest!). Readers will be given a checklist of things to look out for, and they will be asked to mark everything they think applies to the fic they are reading. This document is devised to highlight everything great in the fic; it is not an assignment or an evaluation, and we are not looking at any issues beyond grammar.EqualityThis is not a popularity contest. The number of times a fic gets submitted has no impact on its chances of winning, and neither kudos nor hits will be taken into account during the process. We worked hard to make sure that the process is as fair as possible so that more unknown fics also have a chance to win in their categories. All ships and dynamics will be judged equally. This is not a place for discourse, and Readers are not here to read just for their personal pleasure. A rarepair is just as likely to reach the Finals, as the scoring document is made to be objective and fits every situation - even platonic fics! While BNB fics statistically have an edge as they are in the majority, this event welcomes any pair, so we encourage you to submit a wide variety of fics!ConsentThe only way for a fic to be part of this event past the initial submissions is for the author to agree they want to be a participant and state the category they want to compete in - which can be different from the category they were submitted in. If, at any point, the author wishes to withdraw their consent, their fic will be immediately removed from the competition.Privacy and protectionPrivacy is extremely important to us, so the ratings will never be publicly revealed. At the end of the first round when our finalists and Bonsang winners are determined, our team will only save the kind comments left by Readers, and destroy everything else. This is a celebration to share the joy of fanfiction, not shame writers who have put their time, effort, and love into the art they share for free.RespectAs this event aims to be a celebration of this community, we will not tolerate any hateful, violent or otherwise aggressive behavior. Our team has worked hard for this event, and we deserve just as much kindness. Any kind of verbal harassment, hostility or overall bad behavior towards our team or participating Authors or Readers will result in an immediate ban from the event without any further explanation. In order to make sure this is a positive event for all parties involved, we have strict guidelines to prevent Readers from acting in ways that could be harmful to the participating Authors. We are aware that reading is an extremely personal experience, therefore Readers are encouraged to tell us about any author, category, or tag they do not feel comfortable judging. As an example, not everyone can read Dark fics, and Dark fic writers deserve to have Readers that understand and enjoy their craft. On the other hand, Readers who are friends with Authors might feel awkward rating their work. We will make sure to distribute the fics while keeping the Readers’ boundaries in mind.We ask everyone to respect our values and ethics through their explicit consent if they want to be a Reader. Any behavior that does not align with the positive environment we aim to create will result in the immediate termination of the Reader’s participation.

Nej ❓
I was submitted for the first time in a French award for kpop fics on Wattpad (WKA), and it made me feel such a rush. I wanted AO3 writers in our fandom to have a chance to experience it, too, so I gathered some of us to think up an event!
Amber 💤
Hiya! I’m someone who spends WAY too much of her free time writing & reading, and so I thought - it’s finally time to put myself out there & get involved in the communities that I love! My main passion for being here is my love for writing & zb1 hehe. I'm excited to be involved!
Ash ☕
I just love involving myself in new and crazy projects and that’s the main reason I’m here haha. I’ve been a part of this community for a long time, as a writer and a reader so i want to give something back to all of the amazing people who wrote amazing stuff, and I also really hope that this could help more small authors to be recognized !
Assu 🧍
Nej: so we're doing this thing…
Assu: what the hell, sure.jpg
Cinna 💎
Hi, I'm the villain who hyped Nej up to do the thing. I think a lot of people may not know me because I’m not an author, but I am a fervent (mostly loud) reader. I’ve never experienced such a warm welcome as I have in this fandom, so I wanted to give back a little!
Chiara 🌙
I love this community and the people I’ve met through it, but let’s be real: I'm also a control maniac and jumped at the chance to be on the organization committee of something.
Cy ✨
I’m mostly here to handle the data. Spreadsheets go brrr. Also because I love fics and believe that more of them should be celebrated, particularly unpopular ones.
Flower 🌸
I love our cute community of readers and writers who brought back my passion for writing. I think we deserve to have fun with this project and celebrate fic. I’m in charge of the graphic design team here, so be thankful it’s not all pink and flowers.
Jules 🍊
Completely in it for the love of the arts. I love writing and I love all of the friends I made through it, so I really want to give something positive and fun back to the community and celebrate all of the incredible works that were created! ♡
Luna 🎀
I joined the community recently and it quickly became a safe and comforting space for meee. I have a deep love for writing and am also a big fan of many talented authors, excited to celebrate even more incredible authors through thisss! ♡
Noom ☁️
You see this mildly talented guy in a survival show that is ultra passionate but has no screen time? And everytime you see him, he's herding everyone sporting sprout hair and making sure the team is on track to win. He will lose the show. But not his team. Well, that's me! Using my support, love, and organisational skills on the people I admire and repsect most: fandom creators.
Owl ❄️
The amount of talent that’s in this fandom always leaves me with awe. From theorycrafting to fanart and fics, I feel so happy to be a part of such a passionate community. And that’s not even touching how sweet and kind everyone is! If there’s anything I could do to give an ounce of it back, I’m taking that chance, so that’s why I’m here!
Rin 🐼
The longer I’ve been a part of this community, the happier I am to be surrounded by such amazing and talented authors! I’m so excited to be a part of this chance to celebrate the creators in our community <3
Spana 🌷
Happy to help and happy to be here! I’ve made so many friends this year through writing, and I’m just filled with so much joy. I would love to give back to this wonderful community, so when Nej mentioned making this event, I just knew I had to be a part of it :D

OUR TIMELINE

GENERAL RULES

1. Fics will only be divided by categories
The fics submitted will only be divided by category. They will not be filtered by ship or dynamic. Fics are complex and probably fit multiple categories at the same time. The category assigned at submission is not definitive. Participating authors will still get to confirm the category they feel matches their fic the best.
2. Every fic has a chance
This will not be a popularity contest. The number of times a fic gets submitted has no impact on its chances, and neither kudos, hits nor ships will be taken into account at any point in the process. We worked hard to make sure that the process is as unbiased as possible, so that unknown fics have a chance to win their categories.
3. Don’t play favorites among your favorites!
Don’t just stop at nominating your favorite, widely acclaimed fic, this event is an opportunity to turn the spotlight to the underrated gems hidden in your bookmarks! There is no limit to the amount of fics you can submit – you can fill in the form as many times as you want – and self-submissions are allowed too.
4. One equals one
The number of times a fic is nominated by Zeroses is not influential on its chances to win! Every fic that is entered has equal chances to move onto the next phase, regardless of popularity. Don’t hold back in your nominations!
5. Final considerations
After the first round is over, and all submitted fics have been read and evaluated, the finalists will be announced. If two fics by the same author make it to the finals in the same category, we will ask them to pick only one to go on to the second round, so that four different authors can compete for each award. In this situation, the 5th ranking fic would be picked as a finalist. This makes for a fair competition and it will add to the festive purposes of the ZRA!
Celebrate along with us by checking out your favorite genre and discover new fics waiting for you! Every single submitted fic deserves acclaim and love! Think of this as the final elimination round in Boys Planet: even if your favorite did not make it to the list of finalists, you’ve supported your beloved author! Why not show them love in their future endeavors too?

AWARDING SYSTEM

1. Eligible works
To enter the event, a fic must be complete, on AO3, in English, under the ZEROBASEONE tag, and must not contain a Yujin ship. If the fandom category is only BOYS PLANET, the fic cannot qualify. Double fandom categories in combination with the ZEROBASEONE tag are accepted.. After a fic has been entered with the author’s consent, it must not be edited or updated.
If a fic is an anonymous or an orphaned work, you can still submit it. Our team will try our best to reach out to the author and get their consent. You can nominate a fic here.2. Reading and evaluation process
We will recruit Readers from January 5th to the end of January. To make sure that no one gets rated unfairly, every fic is read by at least three Readers, and we will monitor any deviating scoring. Readers will be given a checklist of things to look out for, and they will be asked to mark everything they think applies to the fic they are reading. All the positive qualities marked by a Reader add up to a final score, which will then be averaged with the other Readers’ ratings.
To better protect the privacy of all parties involved, the ratings will never be publicly revealed. At the end of the first round when our finalists and Bonsang winners are determined, our team will only save the kind comments left by Readers, and destroy everything else. This is an event focused on sharing the joy of fanfiction, and celebrating writers who have put their time, effort, and love into the art they share for free. You can sign up to become a Reader here.3. Final round
How do we figure out which fic will be given the P01 spot in its category?
Readers who have proved their professionalism and impartiality in the first round will be assigned a category. In this category, they will read the four finalist fics and cast a single vote for their favorite one. Art is subjective, and no list could ever encapsulate the magic that words create in our hearts. Whether a fic wins or not, it doesn’t take away the value it holds for its readers!Once all the votes are cast, starting on March 24th, the winners will be announced and given a prize as a token of our appreciation. They will also receive endless bragging rights for being the most loved, and are a part of our official 9! Put it in your summaries, be proud of it!If you have any questions, please check our FAQ, or contact us on our socials.

Fics are complex and probably fit in multiple categories at the same time. Mods will present the submissions based on the reader's picks, but authors have final say in which category their fic belongs in. For this step, just pick what feels best for you!

SUBMISSION RULES

To be submitted, a fic must:• Be posted on AO3
• Be completed when submitted - after a fic has been entered with the author’s consent, it must not be edited or updated.
• Be written in English
• Not feature a Yujin ship.
• Be in the fandom category ZEROBASEONE, and ZB1 members must be main characters in the story. If the fandom category only includes the BOYS PLANET tag, the fic cannot qualify. Double fandom categories in combination with the ZEROBASEONE tag are accepted.
Every fic that respects these rules qualifies for submission. However, for the awards event, we will be contacting the author to ask for their consent personally, and a work must be fully revealed in order for the fic to be evaluated. This means that anonymous, orphaned, or deleted works might not be able to enter. You can still nominate them if you feel they deserve recognition, as we will reveal all the submitted fics in a list of recommendations. From there on, participating or not is entirely in the author’s hands!

ENTERING A FIC

To enter a fic, copy-paste its url (i.e https://archiveofourown.org/works/99999999), select the category you feel matches it best, specify if it’s short or long, and include a way of contacting the author. The last part is optional, but if you know the fic writer’s social media handles, consider linking one of them to us. If we can’t contact them, they won’t be able to enter the event, and finding them all on our own would take a lot of time! You can submit a fic here.

SUBMISSION FAQ

Q: How can I submit a fic?
A: The submission form is available here! Authors will be contacted to enter after their fic appears in the submissions list.
Q: Do I have to pick a fic for each category?
A: You don’t, but we do encourage you to submit all the fics that you loved. We won’t judge if, for example, you were planning to submit five fics in the PWP category alone.
Q: Can I make multiple submissions?
A: You can submit as many fics as you want, as many times as you want, but do take note of the fact that a fic will only be counted once. Multiple submissions of the same fic do not increase its chance to win in any category. You are encouraged to nominate more than one favorite fic, but keep in mind that the event takes place thanks to our Readers who will go through all the submitted fics.
Q: Can I submit a fic from 2023?
A: Yes, it doesn’t matter when the fic was written, as long as it’s completed when it's submitted.
Q: I want to submit a fic but I don't know how to reach the author.
A: It would be helpful to include at least one way to reach the author when you are submitting a fic, since it will make our life easier. Should they not be active on social media, we will try to contact them through an AO3 message. If this does not work or we do not get a timely response, the fic will not be included in the awards, but it will still be featured in our submissions list. We understand that an author might not want to participate in an event like this, and therefore we wish to make everyone as comfortable as possible.
Q: Can I submit an anonymous fic?
A: Any work that follows the submission guidelines can be submitted.
However, if the fic is anonymous, we will do our best to contact the author to ask two things: their consent, and to take the fic off anon during the event. This will also avoid the same author having two different works - one off anon and one with anon - submitted for the final round, since our rules state that one author can only have one finalist fic per category.

I want to become a reader...

You will be given a number of fics to read. To evaluate each fic, you will be given a checklist for things to look out for and asked to mark anything that applies. All the positive qualities marked by a Reader add up to a final score, which will then be averaged with the other Readers’ ratings. You will be offered the opportunity to leave a comment at the end, but you won’t be asked to write a dissertation!

Here is what will be expected from you:

• The ability to pay attention to details while reading;
• Spotting mistakes in tenses, grammar, and typos is important - but you don’t have to be a native English speaker;
• You can rate fics fairly even if you personally wouldn’t choose to read them, whether it’s because of the members or the dynamic featured in the fic;
• Work timely so that you can read and rate given fics within a deadline. If you run out of time or can’t continue for some reason, please let us know well in advance so we can divide your share;
• You absolutely need to keep the evaluation sheet private;
• You need to be able to put aside your personal feelings towards an author, but hard limits will be respected;
• And be respectful to everyone throughout the whole process!

As general rules:

Check out the general rules here.Kindness and respect
We are here to share the joy of fanfiction, not shame writers putting their time, effort, and love into work they share for free. For the same reason, it is strictly forbidden to leave any kind of negative comment on the AO3 work you will be judging. Positive comments, however, are allowed.
No ship bashing
Each and every ship and dynamic will be judged fairly. You may be asked to read a fic with a ship you are unfamiliar with. If you don’t feel able to rate a fic fairly with a ship or dynamic you dislike, either disclose it right away or step out from the event.
Honesty and integrity
Fics you’ve never heard of deserve the same love and care as the classics everyone knows. Don’t hesitate to be honest about your opinion even if the fic is famous, and don’t hesitate to leave a positive note at the end of your rating if the work really pleased you!

You could be banned if:

• You are deliberately inflating a fic’s score or trying to sabotage it by scoring it low. If you are banned, your scores will also be voided. Any suspicious scores will be reviewed by our team, so don’t hesitate to explain your reasoning in the notes at the end of the form if necessary.• You spread a filled rating sheet, posting disparaging comments about a fic or its author, and overall not observing our rules of respect and consent will also get you banned.• Our team is working hard for this event, and they deserve just as much kindness. Any kind of verbal harassment, hostility, or overall bad behavior towards our team will result in an immediate ban from the event without any further justification. If you are a Reader that happens to be an Author submitted and you got banned from the event because of above mentioned behaviors, the ban extends to your competing works. We aim to celebrate our community first and foremost and expect the same from everyone.

READER'S FAQ

Q: How do I sign up to become a Reader?
A: You can sign up using this the form here! The form closes near the end of January.
Q: If I sign up, will I be automatically selected as a Reader?
A: We will examine each application, and will let you know through your preferred method of contact if you made it. Our main goal is to pair all of the submitted fics with Readers that will best be able to evaluate them!
Q: If I'm selected as a Reader, can I drop out?
A: You can drop out of the event at any point. We only ask that you give us ample warning so we can redistribute your workload in time.
Q: Will evaluating a fic be a lot of work?
A: You will need to read the fics you’ve been assigned and fill out a Google Form containing a checklist for each of them. We recommend keeping the checklist on hand while reading. It will make it easier to fill in later. The process is made to be as smooth as possible, but the speed of evaluation will be different per fic and per Reader.
Q: There’s certain topics that I really can’t read, will I be forced to?
A: You will be able to let us know which authors, genres or tags you cannot read while signing up for the event. However, we will not let Readers exclude pairings (or dynamics within the pairing) through their application.
Q: I really don't like this ship, will I have to read fics that include it?
A: This event is based on your ability to objectively judge a story for what it is. You could be offered fics that contain ships that you usually don't read. If you feel like a certain ship or a certain dynamic might negatively impact your ability to evaluate the fic you’re given, please refer to us and we will decide the next steps together.
Q: Can I be a Reader during Round 1 and also during Round 2?
A: The finale will require Readers, but no evaluation form. For this reason, and to avoid favoritism or the Awards ending up becoming a popularity contest, we will only allow Readers that participated in the first round seriously and followed all the rules.
Q: How many fics will I have to read?
A: In the form where you can sign up as a Reader, you will be asked the word count you think you’d be able to read in a week. Based on your answers and the number of fics that enter into the first round, we will give you a number of works that you should be able to finish within the event period.
Q: I read and rated all my assigned fics before the end of Round 1, what should I do now?
If you finished rating all of your fics and want more, you can contact us. We will gladly give you more fics to read!

You’re an author, and your fic may be submitted. Here is everything you need to know!We encourage you to read Our Values in order to better understand our ethics regarding this event and the way we want to make it as positive as possible for authors.Eligibility
Your voice matters! Your fic was submitted by a fan, but the only way for it to be part of the awarding event is for you to agree to the nomination. This will be done through a form that you will receive once submissions become public. In this form you will have to accept or refute the rules of the event, and to give your own, final, opinion on the category the fic will be competing in (which can be different from the one it was submitted in), as well as the length sub-category.
If your fic has been submitted and we did not contact you, feel free to reach out to us!Consent and respect is our number one priority
We will reach out to every author whose fics were submitted, both to know if you want to be featured in our Recommendation List, and if you want to participate in the Awards themselves. If you don’t respond in the given timeframe, decline to participate, or don't want a specific fic to be entered, you will be removed from our list of participants. If, at any point, you change your mind about participating, your fic will immediately be removed from the event.
Chances to win
The number of times a fic is submitted has no impact on its chances, and neither kudos nor hits will impact the process at any point. Each fic will be evaluated for itself, and the evaluation checklist doesn’t focus on popularity or ships at all.
If two fics by the same author make it to the finals in the same category, the author will be asked to pick just one to move on to the next round, so that four different authors can compete for each award. If an author somehow ends up as a finalist in multiple categories, they will be asked to only pick two categories to compete in, to ensure a wider variety of celebrated fics.

AUTHOR'S FAQ

Q: My fic is going to be rated by people. How do I ensure you’re not going to share these results to undermine my work?
A: The rating sheets will stay absolutely anonymous. We will take measures to ensure that the rules are applied and followed, and we will exclude the ratings that look inorganic. Our team will only use the ratings data to create all the statistics needed to select the top four finalists in each category, and subsequently, the winners of each secondary category. Afterwards, we will delete the rating sheets. Those results are only meant to be used for this selection. No rating will ever be disclosed.
Q: Can I submit my own fic?
A: You are allowed to submit your own fic! We welcome all Zerobaseone fics as long as it fits the general criteria.
Q: My fic was submitted, can I still be a reader?
A: Yes, you can still be a reader. However, for fairness’ sake, you cannot read any fics from categories that your fics were submitted in.
Q: My fic was submitted, can I edit my work?
A: Once your fic is submitted, you cannot make any changes to it. We will only accept the version of your fic at the time of the submission. No modifications should be made to your work, as it should represent fics that were loved in the past year.
Q: I’m an author without a submission, can I also be a reader?
A: Of course! Check our Become a Reader tab to know what will be expected from you. A form to submit your participation will be available soon!
Q: What if I want to withdraw my fic from submissions?
A: You can ask us to remove your fic through the author consent form, or you can send us a message on Twitter or Bluesky and we will immediately remove your fic from the event, no questions asked.
Q: I’m not sure I'd be comfortable with the idea of my stories being rated…
A: We set up a very specific way of rating that ensures only positive aspects of a fic are highlighted. Readers will be asked to check everything they think applies to the fic they’re reading from a list of checkpoints. You can see an example below:

Nominations will be coming soon :)

FAQ

Q: How will you make sure this doesn't turn hateful and too competitive?
A: As this event is entirely made to be a celebration of our community, we will not tolerate any hateful, violent or otherwise aggressive behavior. Our team is working hard on this event, and they deserve just as much kindness. Any kind of verbal harassment, hostility or overall bad behavior towards our team or participating Authors or Readers will result in an immediate ban from the event without any further justification.
Participation for this event is voluntary - this is a celebration, not a competition! Our system to determine winners is only focused on positive aspects of fics, so that no author will receive any negative commentary at any step of the process. If any Reader shows behavior that either aims to shoot down a fic or unfairly uplift it, the Reader will be removed from our event and their evaluation voided. No rating will ever be disclosed, and everything will be erased after final winners are announced. We encourage the Readers to leave positive comments on the fics they read in the spirit of celebration that is at the core of this event.Q: Who is in charge of this whole thing?
A: The main organiser and creator of the idea is fellow AO3 writer Nej_Illjuna (her Twitter and Bluesky). All other involved people can be found on the About Us tab.
Q: What's the difference between a Daesang and a Bonsang award?
A: Daesang awards are the main awards and the ones that submissions will be taken for. Bonsang awards are a way to give love to a variety of fics that couldn’t make it to the finals. Even though a fic may not be a finalist, we would still like to give them the love they deserve!! That is why the Bonsang categories exist, and why you can suggest as many as you would like!
Q: How do you pick the winners?
A: Every fic entered will be read by multiple trusted Readers. For every category, four fics will be picked that will make it to the finals. At that point, the second round Readers will be picked among those who participated in the first round, and will be asked to read all the finalist fics for a certain category/categories.
Art can’t be judged objectively, and we believe that art is all about the impact it has on the one interacting with it. All finalists are excellent, and this is why deciding the winners will be different from the first round. This time, the readers will receive a voting form, where they will have to cast a single vote for the fic they enjoyed the most among the final nominees. The most voted will be awarded the Daesang.Q: Won't the most popular fics win automatically?
A: We aim for a fair and balanced process with multiple trusted Readers. A fic that is submitted multiple times will be counted as one submission, and will thus be treated the same as fic that was only submitted once.
All Readers taking part in the event have to agree to our rules and values, among which we ask not to act out of favoritism, either towards the author or the ship, but to consider the fic in the most objective way possible. Each category of submitted fics has its own evaluation sheet that will be filled in by the trusted Readers. Please send us a DM if you are interested in seeing an empty evaluation sheet. However, we will not reveal evaluation sheets that have been filled in. Rest assured that we are doing everything in our power to ensure that this process will be as fair as possible.Q: Aren’t Haobin fics most likely to win? What about rarepairs?
A: All ships and dynamics will be judged equally. We value every type of fic, and as stated in the question above, we are committed to being fair and treating fics all the same regardless of personal ship preference. If you have any doubt, you can read the Readers’ Guidelines stating our rules on the subject.
We tried our best to make sure that smaller ships are treated exactly the same way and without personal preference getting in the way. Haobin fics are statistically more likely to make it to the finals because of the overwhelming number of fics about them, which is an advantage we cannot prevent.Rarepair fics are perfectly eligible, and if you are hesitant to submit one because you think it will not be evaluated fairly, we encourage you to sign up as a Reader and pick your favorite ship as the pairing you are most willing to evaluate. You will see that the evaluation form focuses on everything but the ships, and that all the other factors that make a fic deserving of praise are uplifted. If you want your favorite fic to win, your best course of action is submitting it for the event!Q: I have a suggestion/question for you!
A: You can send us a DM through our official socials, such as Twitter and Bluesky, or on our Neospring! We'd love to hear from you.
